Stand Up & Stand Out

on Saturday, May 14, 2011

I know were all busy but if you want to stand out then you need to involved!  That means participate in clubs on campus, get a job related to your major in College, volunteer your time to a cause that matters to you, attend networking events, and put yourself out there to get to know others.

You can see your College academic advisor to find out what clubs might be a good idea to start participating in or you can visit your College club website to check them all out on your own time. Another great resource is asking other people in your major or outside of your major what clubs they participate in because it might be something you’re interested in too.

Once you gain experience in an on campus organization for a year then you have the opportunity to be on the executive board or advisory board for the organization which is an awesome learning experience that you can put on your resume. Learning leadership experience at an early age is a great trait to have because it will make you better in the workforce and ahead of your peers.

You may think I don’t want to be serious I have all my life to be serious. But if you don’t start thinking ahead now then you’re going to fall behind. The motivated person who is looking ahead into the future is going to rise above you very quickly.  So remember to stay focused and motivated!

Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off your goal.  ~Henry Ford

Short & Quick About Me

I'm a Sophomore at RIT but I have Junior status since I came into College with twenty credits. I'm going to be graduating in 2013 with my MBA. I love my College. I’m a part of a number of clubs on campus and I like to be very involved. Some of the organizations I’m involved in are the Marketing club, Lowenthal Service Group, Women in Business club, and I’m an RIT student ambassador.

I started my own business when I was a senior in high school in 2009. It is called Young&Fit Forever an exercise DVD and fitness class for kids to help fight the obesity epidemic. I traveled to Roseland waterpark in Canandaigua and did exercise expos on the Pepsi stage while also selling my DVD’s, t-shirts, and products. It was a great experience doing events with Roseland Waterpark with my team of Young&Fit kids. I began selling my DVD’s to thirteen Wegman locations right before I started my freshman year of College. I was able to meet with BlueCrossBlue Shield and present them my business idea too. I started my business with the help of the Young Entrepreneurs Academy located in Henrietta, NY. They gave me all the resources, and even money I needed to start my own company. I’m so thankful for all their help.

I’ve done fabulous internships thanks to having my business on my resume. I’ve worked with the Young Entrepreneurs Academy  as a promotional ambassador in Rochester, I was a marketing/sales intern at REDBOOK magazine in NYC, I was a public relations intern at Dixon Schwabl in Rochester, and now I’m working with Rochester Fashion Week as the public relations director and I love it.

Life has a lot of opportunities and I feel you should take all of them. I’m a blogger now and it’s so much fun writing about fashion, and internship advice. I'm hopefully going to start featuring boutiques, salons, and photographers on my blog soon too so keep reading!

I used to be a national ballroom dancer and I competed in Baltimore, Ohio, and NYC. I’m trying to make time to go back into ballroom dancing its one of my passions. Right now I’m trying out modeling and I love it. I’m a natural performer so I feel like being in front of the camera is just like performing.

Looking back I’ve done all star cheerleading, high school cheerleading, college cheerleading, taught hip-hop classes, took ballet, hiphop, jazz, and modern, participated in the Garth Fagan modern dance camp, auditioned for dance spots, choreographed dance routines, performed for the RedCross, taught couples how to ballroom dance, and much more. It seems to me that I love dance so my new year’s resolution is to dance again!
